MEET THE CHEF AND OWNER

Stuart Abrams is the Chef and owner of Restaurant L’Ambroisie since 2006. Curious and passionate, his restaurant is his playground. In his laboratory, Stuart hones his craft: smoked salmon, kombucha, fresh cheese, charcuterie, sprouts, international cuisine, and much more. The restaurant is a creative workshop where Stuart renews and perfects his recipes, shares them with his customers and passes them on to his brigade.

Supported by a competent team, he is also a mentor for the next generation. As a Master Chef in the Red Seal Program, he trains new cooks on the job and helps them earn a diploma that is recognized across Canada.

In 2013, Stuart began designing The Canal room, a multi-functional venue for large-scale private events. This is not his first project: he has collaborated on the design of several restaurant kitchens in Montreal. He is a daring and agile entrepreneur, trained in the corporate and hotel business in Canada.

During restaurant hours, the kitchen is a hive of activity producing events of all kinds: conferences, weddings, fundraisers, corporate parties and even a few culinary festivals, bringing together some 20 restaurants in the city. Stuart Abrams is respected by his peers, who often request him for their own weddings.

Stuart is always on the move - from the dining room to the kitchen to the office he shares with his sales team. He produces over 100 weddings and corporate events each year and operates the restaurant with the agility and poise of a master.

RESTAURANT MENUS

L'Ambroisie Restaurant is located in the southwestern part of downtown Montreal, in the Château St-Ambroise. With its spacious terrace, L'Ambroisie welcomes a business and local clientele during the work week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

At noon, there is something for everyone! First, there are our bistro staples, such as: our gourmet salads and burgers, duck confit, steak frites, etc. L'Ambroisie also offers a diversified vegetarian menu, including pasta, sandwiches, vegetarian meat substitutes and a variety of vegetables.

L'Ambroisie offers new items every Monday with market-fresh menus according to the season's arrivals and always with care to include vegetarian options. You will also find dishes with flavors from many cultures. If you are in a hurry or have somewhere to go, you can stop by the counter to take out. To reduce waiting time, please call to place your order!

At cocktail hour, co-workers gather on the terrace to have a bite to eat before heading home. During the summer, Thursdays are reserved for music; artists come to perform covers of songs or their original material.

In the evening, the atmosphere is generally more intimate. L'Ambroisie offers a traditional French table d'hôte. You'll share the restaurant with an eclectic clientele: wedding tastings, interest groups, Chateau tenants and friends celebrating a special occasion.

ST-HENRI NEIGHBORHOOD, MONTREAL

If you've ever taken a bike ride or a picnic on the Lachine Canal near the Atwater Market, there are a few landmarks in Montreal that simply cannot go unnoticed. The Château St-Ambroise building, with its large red brick chimney, is one of them.

It is at the Chateau that you will find L'Ambroisie and L’Espace Canal: a heritage building built in 1882. The complex has been home to several major manufacturers over the years, such as textile manufacturer Dominion and toy manufacturer Coleco.

In the late 1980s, the site was almost abandoned for 10 years and since then, the complex has been renovated and converted into office space. More than 200 companies are now located at the Chateau, including several design, film, advertising and technology agencies.

In the summer, the waters of the Lachine Canal come alive with kayaks, pedal boats and other watercraft that travel up the canal from the Atwater Market to the locks. The Lachine Canal is a 13.5-kilometer-long urban route, drawn between the Old Port and Lake Saint-Louis and administered by Parks Canada.

Originally a working-class and industrial district, Saint-Henri is now enjoying renewed popularity. Colorful street murals, small, renovated workers' houses and Art Deco buildings grace the streets that saw the birth of Yvon Deschamps and the lives of the characters in Bonheur d'Occasion.
